Hello, I’m Susanna Alwen, The Hands-On Vet. I live on a farm just outside Haslemere with an ever-expanding smallholding including a breeding flock of sheep, chickens, dogs and cats.
I qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 2002 and have worked in many different types of veterinary practice including farm animal, equine, small animal, emergency and the veterinary drug industry to gain a breadth of experience. Most recently I have been working with veterinary rehabilitation centres to find out how complementary therapies could help animals where drug therapy was either not possible on medical grounds or just not working any more.
My approach uses a combination of therapies; bringing conventional veterinary treatments and pharmaceuticals together with complementary therapies such as acupuncture and reiki, tailored to the individual animal, to get the best possible outcome.
